63a three-phase wiring

Powering a lighting control desk, a caterer with ovens and hobs, or a video capture set calls for far more than a household extension lead. Three-phase 63A cabling rental meets exactly this need: it carries power from the venue's switchboard or the generator to the distribution boards, with P17 connectors designed for high currents. At an event, it is the electrical backbone on which everything else depends.

The P17 63A three-phase extension leads available

Our range focuses on two lengths, which complement each other to cover most configurations:

- The P17 63A three-phase extension lead - 5 m, from €8 excl. VAT, to connect a board to a nearby source or to finish a run to exactly the right length.

- The P17 63A three-phase extension lead - 10 m, from €12 excl. VAT, to cross a room, run alongside a stage or reach a generator positioned away from the public.

Both models are fitted with a 5-pole P17 male plug and female socket (three phases, neutral and earth), on flexible cable with a cross-section rated for 63 amps per phase. They chain together to make up the exact length you need.

When 63A three-phase becomes essential

A single 63A three-phase connection provides around 43 kW, which is the combined consumption of a concert sound system, a stage lighting kit and an LED wall. In practice:

- Gala or corporate evening in an unusual venue: link between the mains delivery point or the generator and the main board placed at the control position.

- Trade show: power supply for an exhibitor stand fitted with a demonstration kitchen, machinery or substantial lighting.

- Wedding under a tent: generator output to a board, then redistribution in 32A and 16A to the caterer, the DJ and the lighting.

- Filming or video capture: stable power supply for a lighting set with no risk of tripping.

Downstream, the 63A is split within a board or distribution box that steps down to 32A three-phase or single-phase, and the connection to the venue's switchboard is most often made with a breakout cable.

Rental terms and implementation

The prices shown cover a 1 to 3-day rental period, then fall on a decreasing rate for longer periods, which makes renting worthwhile over a week-long trade show. Our technicians can deliver, run and connect your entire distribution, then collect the equipment at dismantling; every cable is checked and cleaned on its return, at no extra cost. If you have an electrician on site, pick-up through our Drive service at our warehouse remains possible. Send us your floor plan and estimated power requirement: the quote comes back to you quickly, with suggestions on lengths if needed.

How much real power can I draw from a P17 63A three-phase socket?

At 400 V three-phase, 63 A per phase corresponds to around 43 kW in theory. Allow a 20% margin for the surge currents when equipment starts up (motors, ovens, amplifiers).

Can a device be plugged directly into a 63A extension lead?

Rarely: very few pieces of event equipment have a 63A plug. The extension lead normally feeds a distribution board that redistributes the power to protected 32A and 16A outlets.

How much lead time is needed to rent 63A cabling?

The equipment is permanently in stock. An order confirmed the day before can generally be delivered the next day in Île-de-France; for a complete installation with boards and a generator, allow a few days to finalise the electrical plan.
