Crowd Control Post & Stanchion Rental
Stanchion rental, together with guide posts, lets you organise visitor flows while keeping a polished presentation. These dividers are particularly well suited to event entrances, queues, welcome desks, cloakrooms, ticket offices, red carpets, VIP areas and reserved zones.
A guide post makes a route instantly understandable. It shows where to walk, where to wait, where to enter and which areas are reserved. At a trade show, it can channel a queue in front of a welcome counter. At a gala evening or an opening, it can enhance a more premium walkway. In a venue open to the public, it can prevent disorderly crowding and make life easier for the welcome teams.
The choice of model depends above all on the intended use. Retractable belt stanchions are recommended for functional queues and adaptable routes. Their built-in belt lets you quickly create a pathway, close off an access or modify an area according to the footfall. Rope stanchions are more decorative. They are better suited to red carpets, VIP areas, photocalls, ceremonies, product launches and events with a more upmarket image.
- For a standard queue: opt for retractable belt stanchions.
- For a red carpet: choose rope stanchions with velvet ropes.
- For a VIP entrance: gold or chrome stanchions reinforce the premium look.
- For a professional welcome area: guide posts structure the flow without closing off the space.
- For a temporarily reserved area: stanchions provide a clear divider that is easy to adjust.
Stanchions are less imposing than safety barriers. They are therefore particularly suited to indoor spaces, halls, welcome areas, trade shows, conferences and corporate events. For large outdoor crowds or an area requiring a sturdier divider, barriers may be more appropriate. In many cases, the two solutions can be combined: barriers outside, stanchions at the welcome desk or around a VIP area.
To size your requirements correctly, you need to anticipate the length of the pathway, the width of circulation, the entry and exit points and the expected footfall. A route that is too tight can slow visitors down, while markers spaced too far apart can become hard to read.
Solutions Événements offers stanchions and guide posts for hire to organise your access points, keep circulation flowing and showcase your welcome areas.
1. Should you choose rope stanchions or retractable belt stanchions?
Retractable belt stanchions are the most practical for a queue, an access control point or a route that needs to be modified quickly. Rope stanchions are better suited to premium events: red carpet, gala, product launch, VIP area or photocall.
2. How many stanchions are needed for a queue?
As a rule, allow one stanchion every 1.5 to 2 metres for retractable belt stanchions and every 1.20 m for stanchions with velvet ropes, on each side of the route. For a serpentine queue, plan more stanchions in order to create clearly legible back-and-forth lanes. Footfall, available width and waiting time all have a strong influence on the quantity required.
3. Are stanchions suitable for an outdoor event?
Yes, for a welcome area, an entrance or a sheltered outdoor VIP zone. However, for a perimeter with heavy footfall, wind, dense crowds or heightened security requirements, safety barriers are generally more appropriate.
4. Which solution should you choose for a red carpet?
For a red carpet, rope stanchions are the most fitting choice. Gold or chrome finishes and red ropes create an elegant visual walkway. Plan regular spacing to keep a symmetrical, camera-ready result.
5. Can stanchions be used to prohibit access to an area?
Yes, stanchions can mark out a reserved or temporarily closed area. For a strict prohibition or a sensitive zone, they should be complemented by clear signage, staff or sturdier barriers, depending on the context.
