How many high tables are needed for a cocktail reception?
For a wedding cocktail reception or a private party, allow around 1 high table for every 8 to 10 people. For a professional after-work event or a networking cocktail, allow instead 1 high table for every 6 to 8 people, as guests more often set down glasses, plates, business cards or documents. For a very short cocktail reception, 1 high table for every 10 to 12 people may be enough.
How many high tables should you plan for 100 people?
For 100 people, count on around 10 to 12 high tables for a wedding cocktail reception or a classic party. For an after-work event, a trade show or a professional event with a lot of mingling, allow instead 13 to 16 high tables. If a buffet is served with small plates, it is best to slightly increase the number of places to set things down.
Should you provide stools with high tables?
Not necessarily. The high table is designed for standing use. However, for a long event, a VIP area, a terrace or an extended cocktail reception, you can add a few high stools to some of the high tables. There is no need to equip every table: 20 to 30% with seating may be enough to add comfort.
