Neither too light nor too dark, grey 0947 is the carpet agencies lay when they want to take no risks at all: a neutral base of one hundred square metres per roll, against which everything else stands out.

Why grey? Because it argues with no brand guidelines. A red stand, a blue logo, white structures, pale wood furniture: everything stands out against this mid-tone background, which also hides footprints and marks far better than a white or a sand, a real advantage over a three-day trade show. Under hall lighting, it stays stable, with no reflections and no drift towards green or blue.

In terms of format, a roll two metres wide by fifty metres long, or one hundred square metres in a single piece at two millimetres thick; enough to cover a fifty-square-metre stand in two strips, or a fifty-metre aisle without a single join. The roll weighs twenty-three kilos, is carried by two people and unrolls in a matter of minutes; cutting is done with a utility knife, fixing to the floor with double-sided tape to be ordered separately.

This is a product for sale, not for hire: the carpet stays in place at the end of the event, or leaves with the exhibitor for the next date. Its needle-punched surface withstands heavy footfall and is cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

It is found at trade shows, in congress halls, on conference sets, at corporate seminars and along exhibition aisles; combined with a red, black or blue strip, it marks out a VIP area or a stand without the slightest partition, and it serves as a sober background for coloured carpets laid as rugs.

For a small area, the cut per square metre of grey 0947 avoids buying a whole roll; around it, blue 0809, black 0913, white 0110 and sand 0219 compose a multi-coloured floor plan.
